Sketchnoting with Ben Crothers – July 14

Beyond stick figures and empathy maps: clever sketching for user experience and strategy

In a world where we each have about 34Gb of data coming at us every day, it’s more important than ever in our work as designers, researchers, product managers and entrepreneurs to separate the signal from the noise, to distil essence and make meaning out of it all, and to explain our ideas and concepts in compelling ways.

Sketching is a fantastic way to do this!

No matter what you think your sketching ability is, Ben Crothers will show you how to power up your sketching skills for thinking and communicating visually with your team.

Make sure you bring along a sketchbook and markers!

This highly practical hands-on session will include sketching basics to express ideas (not art), sketching user interfaces and flow, communicating research insights and solving problems with visual metaphor, and sketching for conceptual modelling and systems. Bring a sketchbook (A5 or A4 blank paper) plus your choice of markers. Artline 0.4mm are perfect, regular Sharpies tend to be too thick (and they bleed), but you can bring them if you want to. Colour markers and art markers are also fab.

Takeaways:

  • Simple but effective sketching tips and tricks you can use to level up the quality of your product and service design
  • A 4-step process to explain complex concepts using visual metaphor for maximum impact
  • A range of visual patterns to use on the whiteboard to help facilitate more effective problem-solving, collaboration and decision-making amongst teams, stakeholders, and clients

Book Discount for all attendees

Ben will be bringing copies of cracking new book for designers, researchers, product managers and entrepreneurs called Presto Sketching: The Magic of Simple Drawing for Brilliant Product Thinking and Design, which will be offered for $30, an almost $10 saving.
