Gary Bunker: Research: Perils, Pitfalls & Pointers

Gary Bunker brings decades of experience to present a breakdown on the pitfalls of research and how to avoid them, a gathering of the issues he sees every day and how to avoid them in your research. Gary’s been working in this space for decades and brings a commitment to humans, their needs and behaviours to everything he does.  A collection of hints and tips on how to run your research, what to do and what to avoid, where to run it and when to run away.

Martin Tomitch: Design. Think. Make. Break. Repeat.

Martin from the University of Sydney will be highlighting several of the tools and techniques to help you get to usable and delightful solutions to your design projects.

Martin will talk about two recent projects from the Design Lab at the University of Sydney: A new handbook of methods, “Design. Think. Make. Break. Repeat.“, and a new online course on “Innovation through Design” available through Coursera. The talk will give a glimpse into some of the 60 methods included in the book, provide practical tips for using the book in design projects, and showcase some of the online course videos filmed across three Sydney-based design offices. The two projects and their purpose will be contextualised within the role of design in a rapidly changing world in which unprecedented global challenges meet emerging technological opportunities.

Portrait of Gary BunkerGary Bunker

Gary’s been working in UX since the days of tape and card readers, on everything from AI- based zero interface designs to missile systems and ovens (only one of those caused risk to life, by the way, and it wasn’t the missile). He has a particular focus on making the world easier to use for those who need it most – so these days he primarily works in the health and accessibility spaces, and loves the work!
